Amazing. I like the breakdowns and addons. Thank you
@@svtran Right on, glad it was a good format for you! -robin
that's what I need!! perfect!! will train with this a looootttt, the feedback on if what we do is right or not, is sooooo important as a new person to this
I have a question about inside and outside turns as the follower. How do we know if the lead is intending for us to do inside or outside turns? I get confused and turn the opposite way 😅
There should be a very clear difference. My advice: do a free trial of our online salsa program to get the full instruction thedancedojo.com/product/free-trial/ (Salsa Partnerwork On1 > Experienced Beginner module). Short answer: when dancing on1 the inside turn is prep'd on 5 and you start turning on 6. The outside turn is prep'd on 3 and you start turning on 5. The timing is very different. -Robin
Thank you!
You bet! -robin
Hello, how are you finding where 1 and 5 by clave rythm? May be you have some tips how to practice in finding 1, 5?
I don't recommend starting to find the beat using the clave rhythm because it's more advanced. I made this playlist on youtube to teach beginners my method of finding the beat and recognizing the 1 vs the 5: ruclips.net/p/PLzGRdLHrtfBwCPD27hvxH8uvx0pA3ovxM -robin
nice touch showing all the separate angles, very basic but informative

Why I feel like a robot when doing this? 😬
It's normal. Everyone feels awkward at the start. Once your body learns the movement pattern it will eventually start to feel more comfortable. Keep at it! -robin
Muy bueno! This will help me spice up my boring cross body😂😂

Not agreeing with most of your explanations

lovely tutorial, I have a question, why is he not placing his whole foot down on the 5th count. I'm a beginner I've seen some people do this, I'm just curious on aren't we supposed to place our entire foot down on the 5th count.
@@abhishekgururani6993 typically your back break step just uses the ball of your foot. salsa music is too fast to place the whole heel down. It's not a hard rule, but that's while you'll see it. If you're dancing slow or on the spot you can have the heel go down, but if you're dancing quick, with a progressive basic that is not in the spot, then typically ball of the foot is best. make sense? -robin
@@thedancedojo yes, thanks a lot Dance Dojo. Started learning salsa a few months back, your videos have been super helpful thanks, and regards.
I'll say it again: You need to do both - videos for leaders and for followers. It's still confusing to watch.
I use the timing that's the common convention around the world. If you take classes you need to be able to do this. Which part is confusing you. Are you a follow and normally step back on 1 and forward on 5?
This is a great help! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Glad it could help man! -robin
As usual with salsa vile music
At your service
Thank you, so much. This helps a lot.
You're welcome. Great to hear it helped! -robin
I'm just beginning. What makes your video great is the amount of time you spend repeating the same move with music so I can build it into muscle memory knowing I'm doing it correctly. I've been through lots of videos that teach on Salsa on 2 and many show you the steps and only dance to the music for 10 seconds, which doesn't work for beginners. Your video is spot on for people just starting. THANK YOU!
@@frankdamelio6721 Awesome Frank. So glad it's helping and really appreciate you sharing that! -Robin
Thank you for these tips !
@@JCC56 You're welcome! -Robin
Very good tips. I'm a beginner, and It's been interesting to experience different instructors' teaching methods. So many expect true beginners to learn intermediate moves.
I couldn't agree more with your comment. Glad you enjoyed them! -robin
00:20 Teacher, i think if i dance first time... i shouldn't use that movement. if i touch knee of women, it is ok. but! if i touch a woman's outer thigh, it can be problem. am i right?
@@negatif9163 it depends how you do it. if you're not comfortable you can skip it. there's plenty of other moves to do!
Great lesson Why the horn takes 4*8 beats to repeat the pattern ? Not 2*8 beats Between 4:25 - 4:37
Yea you're right, in that timeframe it sounds like it was 4*8. Right before that it was 2*8. Good ear
excellent;ent drills Thank u
Glad you like em, enjoy!
thank you

zero, was always doing something different, same tempo maybe but hitting at different times than him

@@thedancedojo trying, I think I got it, then I check and you are doing something different *P
Dang
Thanks
A beast
Thanks!
Why you start 1 with left foot?
It's the convention for the leads. When dancing with a partner the follow will start stepping with the right foot first.
I was overwhelmed at first, but once I ve got on the track it felt like a huge progress
Awesome, everything takes time. Just take it bit by bit!
You are leading with your heads and legs. Its not good.
They are world champions. They know what they're doing :)
@@thedancedojo OK, understood, if you are a world champion (in what?) you can lead the heap of your partner with a knee.
Amazing!!
Thanks a lot! -Robin
Sweet. I like the modularity aspect on how you laid it out. Great job!
Glad you liked it. Just sharing how I like to break things down in my own mind. -Robin
great breakdown. you guys are awesome! Thank you so much!
thank you! ❤️
I went after the first lesson to the social after. I learnt so much talking to people and people showed me a lot of things. As a lead, I think a basic step is pretty important though. I'd say that's probably the prerequisite.
Absolutely, but once you have the basic step it's great to get out there. Nicely done!
Why counting in eighth??

Omg that timing change tip is GOLD
Glad it helped Melissa!
great video thanks a lot. I lived in ecuador for a while and a lot of people were dancing on 3 so now it all makes sense!
Cool! glad it helped. I still need to visit Ecuador :)
…is it for the salsa dance ?? 😊😊 😊😊😊
yup!
I dance on 3 much more than on 2. I enjoy it when I'm bored or not in love with the song. I find it works well to cumbia songs and in Havana I dance casino with a lot of older women on 3. But I focus on and emphasize the 1, vs thinking 345 781.
Cool, I rarely hear of people intentionally dancing on3 so thanks for sharing.
@@thedancedojo it is just A tiempo. They don't think of it like that. My teacher in Havana never dances on 3. She prefers contratiempo, but says it is common enough.
insightful. thanks
Glad it could help man
Great lesson man, greetings from Poland👍
My pleasure! Glad it was useful. -robin
I understand every follow step here, except her left turn appears difficult. After completing her 1, 2, 3, she steps forward on 5, pivots back on 6, and turns quickly on 7, stepping back on 1. There seems not to be an 8 pause. It took me 20 replys to see how she did this step because the 7 to 1 transition is really fast.
It's just like you said, she steps 123-567. Even if someone appears to dance fast you can just do the steps on those counts and it'll work out. -robin
Imagine dancing salsa to Smooth Operator and doing that on the "Smooooooth Operator"
That last tip for the follows at the end about the torso direction with each step was super helpful! These are the little details that are often overlooked during classes.
Awesome, glad it was helpful Emma :)
Thanks so much for the tip about how the follower’s wrists should be positioned. Now I understand why the instructor said I dance like a zombie 🤣
haha, it's those small details hey?
As someone who is just starting out, all 6 tips were the best advice for me. Thank you so much.
Right on Larry! Glad they could help
All the tips are so helpful, especially turning your feet out and dancing on two lines. Dancing on one line looks so hard!!
Couldn't agree more. Won't see me on a tightrope between two buildings anytime soon. -robin
